Year 4 - Birch Class

Class teacher Mr Sofflet Hsofflet@meridian.cambs.sch.uk

Class overview

Welcome to our Birch Class page. We are a hard working bunch, who are all enthusiastic learners. You can find us across the courtyard area from Reception, next to Maple Class.

In Year 4  Mr Sofflet is our class teacher. When he has release time on Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Millard teaches us Religious Education. On Friday mornings when he has Deputy headteacher release time he is covered by Mrs Holmes who teaches Shape and space(Maths), Pshce and music.  Other adults that work in our classroom are Mrs Cummins (Nadine), Mrs Smith (Lyndsey) and Mrs Tarring.

Year 4 children are expected to continue to develop their independent working behaviours and become more responsible for their own learning.

We learn in a variety of different ways in Year 4, taking our direction from the National Curriculum. Our topic for the first half of the Spring term is Anglo Saxons and Vikings. You can find out more about what Birch Class will be up to on our Topic Web, ready to download on the right hand side of this page.

Homework is given out every Friday and is due in again on Wednesday. They can expect Spellings, Maths work and usually a Literacy or Topic-based activity. They are also expected to read  ten pages a day, five days a week. Children should not be working more than an hour and a half a week on their assigned task, although any extra research or practise they fancy is always warmly welcomed.

Life in Birch Class

Birch Class are supportive, friendly and work together to support each other. We take learning seriously but still have fun. We also help each other to reach our full potential by taking part in peer editing and working as a team. In addition, we listen to each other and give suggestions for improvement.
