Year 5 - Sycamore Class

Class teacher Ms Maxine Senior

Class overview

Welcome to Sycamore Class page, you can find us in the Lee building. We are taught by Ms Senior everyday except Wednesday when Mrs Millard takes over in the afternoon and also teaches the class from 11:45 to 12:20 on Fridays. Mrs Smith kindly volunteers to help in class with Spanish learning on Mondays. There are 31 children in Sycamore Class.

We are a friendly group, who try to work hard together and help each other to enjoy learning.

We learn in a variety of different ways in Sycamore Class, taking our objectives from the National Curriculum. English and Maths are taught daily using creative and memorable approaches. Much of the learning is topic based, so links are made between subjects regularly. ICT is taught and used throughout all subjects when possible and new skills are taught in weekly ICT lessons.

The timetable is displayed in the classroom so we are able to organise ourselves for each lesson. Physical Education is very important and is taught on Mondays and Fridays.

You can find out more about what Sycamore Class will be doing on our Curriculum Map, which is ready for you to download, on the right hand side of this page.

Homework is given out every Friday and is due in again on the following Wednesday. We can expect Spellings, Maths and usually an English or Topic-based activity and are also required to read roughly ten pages a day, five days a week.  In addition, we get extra support from our teacher on Monday lunchtime if we are having any problems with our homework.

Life in Sycamore Class

Sycamore Class are supportive, friendly and have a calm learning environment. We take learning seriously but still have fun. We also help each other to reach our full potential by taking part in peer editing and working as a team. In addition, we listen to each other and give suggestions for improvement.
